OR Controllers, Ideal Diodes

This Product Selection Guide contains information to help select products in the OR Controllers, Ideal Diodes category on DigiKey.com

Ideal diode controllers, also called O-Ring controllers, are devices designed to control an external pass transistor (usually a FET) in a manner that allows current flow in only one direction, similar to a rectifier diode but with significantly lower conduction loss. Among other applications, they are commonly used for providing reverse-flow protection in power supplies designed to be connected in parallel for the sake of redundancy or increased output current capability.

SelectionCharacteristics

Type: Defines the primary construction style of the device, indicating which type of part it is and determining its general usage.

FET Type: Indicates the channel type of the power-handling FETs incorporated within a device, or of external FETs with which a device is designed for use.

Ratio - Input:Output: Indicates the number of signal inputs and outputs present in each functional circuit within a device.

Internal Switch(s): Indicates whether or not a device integrates the power transistor(s) needed for manipulation of the power source a device is intended to control.

Delay Time - ON: Typical latency from a control input to its corresponding output when the output is being asserted.

Delay Time - OFF: Typical latency from a control input to its corresponding output when the output is being de-asserted.

Current - Output (Max): The maximum amount of current that can be output by the device.

Current - Supply: This represents the maximum current to which a device will meet its given specifications. Exceeding this current may damage the device and/or other system components.

Voltage - Supply: Typically represented by a range, this indicates the low and high voltage limits which one can expect standard operation. Voltages outside this range may damage the device and other system components.

Applications: Application is the type of equipment or environment the device will be used in, typically they are tested and rated by a third party to ensure certain minimum standards for the application they are intended for.

Operating Temperature: Recommended operating temperature, typically given in a range or as a maximum. Exceeding these temperatures may affect performance or damage the device and other system components.

Mounting Type: Indicates how the device is attached.

Package / Case: Indicates the type of protective case used on an electronic component to allow easy handling, installation, and protection. This selection was determined to be the closest industry standard applicable to the supplier device packaging. Typically it is best to check the actual dimensions from the datasheet rather than depend on this terminology when designing your circuit.

Supplier Device Package: This is what the manufacturer calls the package of this device. They are manufacturer specific. It is typically best to use the actual dimensions from the datasheets rather than to go by this terminology when designing your circuit.
