Orient Display JAZZ Series Wiring

Hello All,

There seems to be some occasional confusion with the wiring diagrams in the JAZZ Series backlights from Orient Display, with people questioning how many wires are actually included, assuming that it’s a 3-wire display when this is not the case.

The layout for the mechanical diagram looks ambiguous at first glance, but it’s there in the data sheet if you stop to take a look at the details. In this case we’ll look at 2544-JAZZ-AE-S-ND since it’s the example with the most visually dense drawing. Data sheet linked here.

The text simply describes the color, “blue.green.red” which can be misinterpreted as a description of the wire colors, but it’s just another instance of the backlight color being repeated. If you look at the actual circuit diagram, it shows four lines, one for each color and one labeled “K.” The same is true if you zoom in on the mechanical diagram and see that the connector has four pins labeled, as shown below. For this series, any time you see that “K” wire you can assume it is the black wire for GND.

Hope this helps clear up any misconceptions around this series.
