Sourcing 9mm Audio Potentiometers

I currently have a customer’s high end multi-channel Audio Amplifier on the bench in pieces, The Volume pots have simply worn out and have become noisy.

The pots in question are 9mm vertical mount with a sleeve shaft collar. There are no markings other than B503 on the bottom so there are obviously 50K linear but of unknown manufacture. I can find numerous suppliers with the collarless versions but with no other mechanical support for the shaft I doubt they would last very long. I am having real trouble sourcing suitable replacements.

I am looking for;

  • Bourns : PTV09A-1030F-503
  • Alpha : RV09ACF-40-30F-B50K
  • Same Sky : PT01-A130D-B503
  • Alps Alpine : RK09D1130-F30-C0-B503

Can you help me with any of these parts?

Welcome to the TechForum william.walters! Do you have any pictures of the originals? I am not sure what is meant by “no mechanical support for the shaft.” Do you mean something with a bushing?

I’ve got similar hits to some of those parts:
1: PTV09A-4030F-B503
3: PT01-D130D-B503

These don’t appear to have bushings, though. Here is a list of options that are similar to the ones above that do have bushings for mechanical supports:

Thanks for your response. The image below on the left shows the part I need. The image on the right is the collarless version which is of no use to me and I’m sure you can see the difference. It has to be a direct replacement for the existing pots in the amplifier. The collarless version will not have the mechanical robustness to do the job and nothing else will fit.

I have received a response from Bourns who where very helpful but say that they have never actually made this particular part but could if I ordered 1000. I only need 3!!

Unfortunately, the OEM, Acus amplifiers, Italy, are being most unhelpful. They haven’t even had the courtesy to reply to my enquiry about sourcing replacements.

I don’t see any images attached. If I had to guess, ACUS probably had a specific collar/bushing that isn’t “standard.” Not too uncommon for OEMS, unfortunately. Is there any way you could retrofit it?

Hello william.walters,

The closest match I found for 50K, and with a sleeve, is part number 2223-PT01-D225D-A503-ND. If you need a longer shaft, but best option is part number PTV09A-4225F-A503-ND, which does not have a collar. Both have a 10mm wide body.
Please check the datasheets to verify compatibility to your application.
