This Product Selection Guide contains information to help select products in the Thermostats - Mechanical - Industrial category on DigiKey.com
Mechanical Thermostats are designed to keep components safe in situations where there is an excessive amount of temperature. Components in this family will open or close a circuit that they are installed in when the Switching temperature (Adjustable, 14°F to 500°F) of the device is exceeded. The Reset temperature ranges are Manual Reset, One Shot, and 20°F to 440°F with Current ratings of 0.045 A to 25 A. These are made for use in an industrial setting.
SelectionCharacteristics
Circuit: Describes device function in terms of a number of poles and throws, as is typical for mechanical switches. For more information please see: Switch Basics, Examples of Pole and Throw
Switching Temperature: The nominal temperature at which a device’s output changes state. Actual temperature switch points are subject to manufacturing tolerances and hysteresis effects.
Reset Temperature: The temperature at which an actuated thermostat is rated to return to its resting (low-temperature) state.
Current Rating - AC: The maximum AC current the device is rated to interrupt, under the manufacturer’s stated test conditions.
Current Rating - DC: The maximum DC current the device is rated to interrupt, under the manufacturer’s stated test conditions.
Tolerance: Characterizes the extent of permitted variability of overall device temperature measurement among samples of a given part number, resulting from variations in manufacturing.
Switching Cycles: The number of actuation cycles at rated current that a device is expected to withstand.
Termination Style: Selection of termination style used to connect the device to a system, such as quick connect or wire leads.
Mounting Type: Indicates how the device is attached.
Package / Case: Indicates the type of protective case used on an electronic component to allow easy handling, installation, and protection. This selection was determined to be the closest industry standard applicable to the supplier device packaging. Typically it is best to check the actual dimensions from the datasheet rather than depend on this terminology when designing your circuit.
