XDP24-E Stuck With Error 501 and Blank LCD After Interrupted Firmware Update

Hi everyone,

We recently purchased a Crouzet XDP24-E smart relay from DigiKey and ran into an issue during commissioning. I’m wondering if anyone has experienced something similar or knows a recovery procedure for this case.

The controller was operating normally at first. During the initial program download using Crouzet Soft, the software requested a controller software/firmware update. Unfortunately, while the loading/update process was still in progress, the controller power supply tripped unexpectedly.

After powering the unit back on, these are the current symptoms:

  • LCD display is completely blank/inactive

  • RUN LED is blinking rapidly

  • Ethernet link LED is still active

  • Controller still responds to ping over Ethernet

  • Device IP Address can still be detected in Crouzet Soft, but the label appears corrupted (“yyyyyyyy”)

  • Diagnostic shows:
Error 501 – “Fault during Firmware updating”

It looks like the firmware/application update may have been interrupted during the power loss and corrupted the controller state.

Has anyone recovered an XDP24-E from this condition before?
Thank you for you support.

Hello @danielsitohang2833,

I’ll assume this is similar to the EM4 and Slim PLCs I’ve used in the past.

You likely tried already, but did you power cycle and attempt to “Update the controller software and language” from Crouzet soft as described here?

There is a warning in that section that may apply to your situation, “DO NOT UN PLUG THE USB CABLE OR REMOVE THE POWER AT THIS POINT AS IT MAY NOT BE ABLE TO RECOVER THE em4 FROM THIS”

If this does not work, I recommend you contact Crouzet support directly.

Please let us know if you were successful.

Sincerely,

APDahlen

P.S. Not to bring gloom, but I have bricked a PLC from another OEM by accidentally interrupting an update.

Hello @APDahlen

Thank you very much for your response and suggestion.

Yes, I have already tried the exact procedure you mentioned, specifically the “Update controller software and language” function from Crouzet Soft. However, in my case the connection was performed through ethernet only, as I currently do not have the USB programming interface/cable for this module yet.

Unfortunately, the connection could not be fully established even though the Ethernet IP from the module could still be detected (which its label is very strange (yyyyyyyyy). Every time I tried using the software update/recovery option, it ended with an error.

Have you ever try it using an ethernet connection? Thanks.

Sorry @danielsitohang2833,

Bluetooth was used for the Slim and EM4. I do not know if the bluetooth module for the XDP24-E will solve your problem.

We appear to be in uncharted territory, as I can find nothing about resetting the PLC and I don’t have the experience.

Have you reached out to Crouzet support?

Sincerely,

Aaron

Hello Aaron,

Yes, I already contacted Crouzet support through their website, but so far I haven’t received any response yet.

I was also wondering if DigiKey might have another contact channel or technical contact from Crouzet that we could try reaching regarding this firmware recovery/Error 501 issue on the XDP24-E.

Thank you again for your help and support.
