3.5" to 5.7" LCD swap help

Hi everyone,
I have a system that uses a 3.5" TFT LCD that I want to replace with a 5.7" screen. The 3.5" screen is a Innolux PT035TN01 V.6 and I am looking for a 5.7" one that is as similar to it so the swap can be easy. Can anyone suggest any screens or give me some info on what can/cannot be done? I am completely new to LCD screens.

Welcome to the forum.

It would help a lot if you could tell us what device you are trying upgrade with a larger display.

In general it is not possible to change a device to use a larger display without a major redesign of the interface hardware and rewriting its firmware.

Here’s the original display’s specs (the Innolux Corporation website does not list the part because it is discontinued):

To get close to a drop in replacement you’ll need to find another LCD with the same:

  • Pixel resolution: 320(RGB)×240, QVGA
  • Pixel Format: RGB Vertical Stripe
  • Interface type: this display has two, Parallel RGB (1 ch, 8-bit) + SPI, you’ll have to figure out which interface your device is using.
  • Voltage: 3.3/5.0V (Typ.)(VCC/AVDD)
  • Lamp Type: 6S1P WLED

Thank you for your inquiry.

As @PaulHutch has indicated, it’s not a simple task to swap LCD screens because whoever designed the device wrote the firmware and designed the hardware interface around the original LCD.

To give an example, I found a matching 320 x 240 (QVGA) resolution 5.7inch screen but it’s interface is Parallel, 18-Bit (RGB), so will not work.

Thank you for your reply, The device im using is called a Greddy Infometer Touch. Its a monitor that displays data from your OBD2 Port. What you have listed below helps me minimize what I need to look for when upgrading this screen. Is there anything else I should look for when looking for a screen?

I also want to mention the specs you send me are for the V.2, my system uses the V.6

I took a quick look at the resource @PaulHutch provided, and it seems they have other technical documents on that site but you need an account. Below is the most detailed document I could find for V6, but it’s not exactly ideal:

I was able to find a datasheet for it on some website that was free

The data sheet for the newer version shows:

Input Voltage 3.3/5.0/15.0/-10.0V (Typ.)(VCC/AVDD/VGH/VGL)

It will be nearly impossible to find a replacement LCD display that uses that mix of voltages.
