Alternative for Potter & Brumfield relay KMP17A11

Hi folks, I was wondering if someone could help me find an alternative for this Potter & Brumfield KMP17A11 relay. As you can see in the photo, I would only be using one of the sets of switches. So although the relay has 4 sets, I would only need a single pole double throw.

Can anyone recommend a replacement?

Hello jeanpierremarchant, welcome to the TechForum! Do you know the amount of current the contacts are rated for and what are the dimensions of the cutout the socket sits in?

Hi Kaleb, thanks for the reply. The measurement of the cutout sockets is around 29mm x 20mm. (+/- 1mm). Is this close enough or should I remove the relay from the socket and remeasure?

I don’t know what amperage the contacts are rated for, but the whole circuit runs from a standard 120V wall socket. I’ve attached a schematic of the circuit. The 2 relays are in the bottom right hand corner.

I would take a look at these potential alternates, click here. I think it would be best to base the current off a typical US outlet maximum of 15A or more. As for the size, you would have to check the various datasheets in this instance. You don’t have to use the sockets, but there might be some available depending on the part you choose.

Great thanks, I’ve had a brief look. So I would look for a coil voltage of 120VAC, correct? Or should I go slightly higher?

Also, do the following specs really matter:

Switching voltage

Load-max switching

Coil current

Must operate voltage

Must release voltage

120VAC is ideal based on RMS values of typical American outlets. It may be okay to choose 110 or 115 because of the range of the “must operate and must release voltage.” Switching voltage just tells you what the contacts are rated for, load-max is more for surges. Coil current only matters if Engineers working with a system have current limitations on the power side of the coils. Think of must operate and release as a tolerance for the absolute minimum the relay requires to turn on or off. Otherwise, it may sit in an unknown state between those values because it’s not quite enough to turn off or not quite enough to turn on.
