What kind of surfaces will this stick to?

3M specifies that it can be painted, stained or varnished wood, glass, tile, painted cinder block, plaster, metal, and painted wallboard.

It is not a good idea to apply this to any surface that will break, peal, crumble, or flake, nor do you want to apply it to a surface that will not provide full contact with the adhesive. If you need to put it on a surface like that, surface prep will be required. Use the mindset that the adhesive will most likely stick to what you are applying it to however a that surface also has to be strong enough and stay intact.

When applying to a painted surface be sure to have given the paint sufficient time to cure. 3M recommends 7 days.

How much weight can it hold?

Different products have different limits that can range from 1lb up to 16lbs or more. The packaging will indicate what the limits are. The ratings are not additive, which means that doubling the amount of command strips will not increase the load limit recommended by 3M
