I am in desparate need of this obsolete chip or a compatible replacement - AD 8600A PLCC44 16 Channel 8-bit DAC Chips. Guaranteed OEM Analog Devices.

Sourcing semiconductors such as this can be very difficult. It’s ironic that we can source a vacuum tube designed in the 1930s but it’s hard to source semiconductors from the 1990s.

Regrettably, I’m unable to find anything NOS (New Old Stock) from DigiKey or any of the other suppliers. Likewise, I am unable to recommend a modern solution without significant modifications to your PCB.

However, there are a few companies that specialize in obsolete parts. These components may be reclaimed from operational equipment or surplus from manufactures as they updated their inventory. You can find a few of these companies in the link below. It may take a few phone calls, but I suspect at least one of them has your DAC. Sorry, I can’t offer any recommendations other than to say they provide a valuable service to those who wish to restore aging equipment.

I regret that I could not provide an immediate solution. Please keep this DigiKey community in mind if you have and future questions.

There are some in China, but I don’t know if they are refurbished products, dc is a long time old
