Motor Driver Boards, Modules

This Product Selection Guide contains information to help select products in the Motor Driver Boards, Modules category on DigiKey.com

Motor driver boards and modules contain the circuitry necessary to supply adequate power and control for AC, DC brushed and brushless, servo and stepper motor(s). Boards consist of an open frame design and are mounted at the user’s discretion. Modules include some type of enclosure and are mounted using flanges, tabs and DIN rail. Communication interfaces may include; CAN, PWM, RS-232, RS-422, RS-485, SPI, I2C, USB, step/direction, UART and EtherCat.

SelectionCharacteristics

Type: Refers to the categorization of the motor driver component.

Motor Type: Indicates what type of electrical motor a device is designed to control.

Control / Drive Type: Indicates device function or the type of motor a device is intended to control.

Number of Motors: The quantity of motors that may be simultaneously connected to or controlled by a given module.

Voltage - Load: Indicates the maximum voltage that can be controlled by a device’s output stage; may be distinct and different from that which is required for powering a device’s internal workings.

Current - Output: The amount of current that can be output by the device.

Wattage - Load: The amount of electrical power that a device is rated to be able to deliver to a load on a continuous basis.

Voltage - Supply: Typically represented by a range, this indicates the low and high voltage limits which one can expect standard operation. Voltages outside this range may damage the device and other system components.

Interface: Indication of which interface(s) or protocol(s) are used by the device to communicate with other components in the system.

Mounting Type: Indicates how the device is attached.

Operating Temperature: Recommended operating temperature, typically given in a range or as a maximum. Exceeding these temperatures may affect performance or damage the device and other system components.

Features: These are different capabilities or properties of the device such as Load Monitor, Programmable Current, and VFD Kit.

For Use With/Related Products: Defines other part types, numbers, or series with which this product is designed to be used.
