Need more information on JST EH series connectors

The data sheet (https://www.jst-mfg.com/product/pdf/eng/eEH.pdf) from JST indicates that connector series EH is a wire-to-board connector. I am interested in wire-to-wire connectors. Am I correct in assuming that the Headers and Housing drawings are wire-to-wire connectors? Please provide some more discussion interpreting these drawings.

In addition please point me to which crimp pins are to be used for wire-to-wire connectors. I have several hand crimping tools of various sizes. What size die do I need? My wire size will be 24ga and 26ga.

Are there any insulation displacement connectors in the EH series?
What JST series does do insulation displacement and what hand tool is available for assembling them?

Thank you.
Nicholas

Hello,
Welcome to the DigiKey TechForum. Here is what we have available in the EH series. These are wire to board connectors and none of these are IDC style. Headers and Housings are not wire to wire connectors, header is a term used for connectors that are attached to a PC board giving you the wire to board mating connection. Wire to wire connectors are what we refer to as “Free Hanging (In-Line)” mounting style connectors. You can look at these options from JST which are free hanging inline connectors and the mates listed are also free hanging inline giving you the wire to wire mating connection. From this list of parts lets click on the very top one, part ACHTP-02V-S . On this page you will see information on the connector and if you scroll down you will see “Mating Products” and listed as a mate is part ACHTR-02V-S which is a free hanging inline connector giving you the wire to wire connection you want. The associated contacts are also listed on the page just below the mating connectors and this is where you can choose your contacts, the awg size will be listed with the contacts so you know what size wire you can use with them. Here’s what you’ll see when you scroll down.

These are JST options but we carry several manufacturers that make these types of connectors. The search category for this style is Rectangular Connector Housings for more crimp style connectors or Free Hanging, Panel Mount for more IDC style connectors . Hope this helps in your search and if not, give us a more detailed description (number of positions, pitch, mounting style, crimp or IDC) of what you need and we can assist in finding parts. You mentioned you have several crimp tools and small projects for yourself an all purpose crimp tool may work just fine but if you’re planning on more than that I recommend using the associated crimp tool listed for the contacts you’re using.

Your comments are very helpful. Thanks.
That rules out JST EH connectors being used in my equipment. The manufacturer claimed they were EH. Is there a way for me to send you a photo to verify what I have?

My second problem is to determine the series of a wire-to-wire connector between two devices. The letters HR are stamped on it and it has two rows of wire contacts. Again I have a photo.

Yes, please post your photos here on the forum, thanks.

Just as a starting point, “HR” often would indicate a Hirose connector.
