Non polar capacitor?

I bought some SEK010M050ST capacitors thinking that they are non polar. The polarization filter just has a dash (-). When I got them they have a stripe but no negative symbol. Are they actually non polar? If not what does the dash mean in the polarization filter?

Thanks,

Glenn

Hello @glenn1

Welcome to the TechForum

SEK010M050ST would be a polarized capacitor according to the drawing on the datasheet.

Thank you for pointing this error our on our website about the polarization filter in the Aluminum Electrolytic capacitors category. I have reported the error to have the polarization filters (-) reviewed in that category, as I found a few different series that should have been listed as polar according to their datasheet but are listed as (-) on the polarization filter.

Thanks Anthony. I checked the datasheet but missed the labelling in the picture. I appreciate your help.

Glenn

Hi glenn1,

Sorry for the confusion there.

As a general note when using filters on the DigiKey website, whenever one sees a dash (-) in one of the parametric filter columns, it means that either there is no data available for that column or that, for whatever reason, the data has not been filled in. It is not meant to explicitly mean that a feature exists or not.

In this particular case, one would select either “Polar” or “Bi-Polar” to get only those options, as highlighted below. For those with a dash, one would need to examine the respective datasheet of of each part to know for sure.

Also, though we strive hard to eliminate errors in the parametric values on our website, we are not perfect, so it is highly recommended that one verify specifications in the respective components’ datasheets before purchasing to eliminate surprises.
