Solder or Solderless Banana Plug Assembly

Banana Plugs can be assembled in many different ways. Crimp, Screw, Solder, or Solderless. Often the question is asked to explain the differences between two assembly methods. In this article I will show the two ways of assembling a Plug J460-ND that is both Solder or Solderless Assembly.

Solderless Assembly

  1. You will need to strip your test lead (wire) approx 1 inch.
  2. The stripped portion is then placed through the hole in the plug. You then wrap the remaining portion of the wire around the narrow portion on the back of the plug.
  3. The cover will then slip over the plug. Note: the high side of the cover with notch will go over the wire. Push cover until notches in cover lock onto plug.

Solder Assembly

  1. Strip approx 1/4" of your test lead (wire) and tin for better connection.
  2. Run stripped portion of test lead through the hole supplied in the Bannana Plug and solder.
  3. Once soldered and cooled, slip the cover over the plug. Note: the high side of the cover with notch will go over the wire. Push cover until notches in cover lock onto plug.
