Hello, looking to find the below right-angle 4-pin HDD TE/Molex power connector and the included “lid” on top that makes the wires go right-angle. Bonus for advice on crimper tool kit for this too.
Hi scott11,
Welcome to the TechForum.
Can you give us the pitch, P, of this connector? Pitch is the center-to center spacing from one contact to the next. More accurate measurement can be made by measuring from first to last contact and dividing that by 3.
Unfortunately, all I have is this picture from a product listing. I will order a few and then can take a closer look and provide more.
Is this the typical power connector coming out of an ATX power supply?
Yes, but at a right angle for tight spaces. It’s usually a short cable that will convert the straight connector from ATX power supply cable to the right-angle you see, then that will go into a 3.5" hard drive.
Here is the product listing: Are you a human?
I think all we are going to have is what’s on the link Common Computer Power Supply Connectors
I also found the below link of items that look like they have the same termination.
Free Hanging, Panel Mount | Connectors, Interconnects | DigiKey
You might be onto something here with these. Would these be bare wire then crimped in? What crimper tool would work on those?
The items Nathan references have what is known as an IDC (Insulation Displacement Connector) termination, which uses pre-installed contacts that pierce/displace the insulation on an un-stripped length of wire that is simply pressed into position.
The TE product page for a given connector product will commonly reference an Application Specification document that provides guidance on application of the connector to an appropriate wiring material. Tooling references are commonly found further below.
