This Product Selection Guide contains information to help select products in the Full Half-Bridge Drivers category on DigiKey.com
Devices in the bridge driver PMIC (Power Management Integrated Circuit) family incorporate two or more power transistors along with circuitry required to operate them as switches under the control of an external device. The transistors are typically configured internally in series-connected pairs known as half-bridges, such that the junction between any given pair can be connected to either of two power supply rails. They are commonly used to translate low-level signals provided by a control device such as a microcontroller into the higher power signals required to operate an actuator such as a stepper or brushless motor.
SelectionCharacteristics
Output Configuration: Indicates the circuit pattern of the device’s output, and how many outputs it has available.
Applications: Application is the type of equipment or environment the device will be used in, typically they are tested and rated by a third party to ensure certain minimum standards for the application they are intended for.
Interface: Indication of which interface(s) or protocol(s) are used by the device to communicate with other components in the system.
Load Type: Indicates which type of current draw the device is designed to interface with and thus the load parameters it’s able to accept.
Technology: Defines the primary construction style of the device, indicating which type of part it is and determining its general usage.
Rds On (Typ): Manufacturer’s characterization of device on-state resistance(s). See datasheets for applicable test conditions.
Current - Output / Channel: Typically this indicates the maximum current each output channel can continuously provide.
Current - Peak Output: The maximum current a device can deliver to a connected load for a brief period of time, measured under manufacturer-defined test conditions.
Voltage - Supply: Typically represented by a range, this indicates the low and high voltage limits which one can expect standard operation. Voltages outside this range may damage the device and other system components.
Voltage - Load: Indicates the maximum voltage that can be controlled by a device’s output stage; may be distinct and different from that which is required for powering a device’s internal workings.
Operating Temperature: Recommended operating temperature, typically given in a range or as a maximum. Exceeding these temperatures may affect performance or damage the device and other system components.
Features: These are different capabilities or properties of the device such as auto restart or an internal oscillator.
Fault Protection: Enumerates protection features incorporated by a device and/or operational hazards against which a device is protected in some manner.
Mounting Type: Indicates how a device is attached.
Package / Case: Indicates the type of protective case used on an electronic component to allow easy handling, installation, and protection. This selection was determined to be the closest industry standard applicable to the supplier device packaging. Typically it is best to check the actual dimensions from the datasheet rather than depend on this terminology when designing your circuit.
Supplier Device Package: This is what the manufacturer calls the package of this device. They are manufacturer specific. It is typically best to use the actual dimensions from the datasheets rather than use this terminology when designing your circuit.
