This Product Selection Guide contains information to help select products in the Interface - Drivers, Receivers, Transceivers category on DigiKey.com
Products in the Drivers, Receivers, Transceivers family function chiefly to provide the hardware resources necessary for communication over extended cable or trace lengths. Exact functionality varies with the communications protocol employed and may include things such as transient suppression which may not be strictly necessary for communications purposes but are highly advisable in likely use contexts.
SelectionCharacteristics
Specifications to determine which driver, receiver, or transceiver is right for your application.
Type: Identifies whether it is a driver, receiver, etc.
Protocol: Enumerates the communications protocols and/or standard interfaces that a device supports or implements.
Number of Drivers/Receivers: The number of drivers and /or receivers within the device.
Duplex: Identifies whether it is full-duplex or half-duplex. Half-duplex supports one-way communication while full duplex supports bi-directional communication.
Receiver Hysteresis: The difference between positive-going and negative-going threshold values for digital input.
Data Rate: Identifies how quickly the device can receive and/or send data, when selecting a device it is important to match the data rate to the device you intend to communicate with.
Voltage - Supply: Typically represented by a range, this indicates the low and high voltage limits which one can expect standard operation. Voltages outside this range may damage the device and other system components.
Operating Temperature: Recommended operating temperature, typically given in a range or as a maximum. Exceeding these temperatures may affect performance or damage the device and other system components.
Mounting Type: Indicates how the device is attached.
Package / Case: Indicates the type of protective case used on an electronic component to allow easy handling, installation, and protection. This selection was determined to be the closest industry standard applicable to the suppliers device packaging. Typically it is best to check the actual dimensions from the datasheet rather than depend on this terminology when designing your circuit.
Supplier Device Package: This is what the manufacturer calls the package of this device. They are manufacturer specific. It is typically best to use the actual dimensions from the datasheets rather than to go by this terminology when designing your circuit.
