Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) Systems

This Product Selection Guide contains information to help select products in the Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) Systems category on DigiKey.com

Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) Systems are units designed to supply electrical power to external devices for a few minutes during a power outage, allowing either the device to safely shut down or power to be restored. For use at home, industrial or network applications, UPS systems can provide power either through standard AC outlets or by directly hardwired, with some able to act input voltage regulation and protection to media lines such as phone, ethernet or coax cables.

SelectionCharacteristics

Type: Indicates the style and configuration of the device.

Voltage - Input: Typically represented by a range, this indicates the low and high voltage limits which one can expect standard operation. Voltages outside this range may damage the device and other system components.

Applications: Application is the type of equipment or environment the device will be used in, typically they are tested and rated by a third party to ensure certain minimum standards for the application they are intended for.

Form: Indicates the style of the device, which typically indicates if it is mountable or stand alone.

Power - Rated: The maximum amount of output power a device can supply, as determined by the manufacturer.

AC Outlets: Indicates the number of standard AC output ports present on a device.

Backup Time - Max Load: Amount of time that a device is capable of supplying full rated output power from its internal battery, following loss of primary power. Actual performance will vary with load and battery condition.

Media Lines Protected: Enumerates connector styles for common media interfaces that can be protected by a device.

Voltage - Output: Indicates the maximum output voltage that a device is capable of producing or accommodating, subject to specified limitations or constraints.

Input Connector: Indicates the style of connector on a UPS that is used to connect to a principal power source.

Output Connector: Specifies the connectors used by a device for AC output, in terms of standard designations or description when non-standard connectors are used.

Cord Length: Indicates the total length of the cord if supplied.

Approval Agency: An indication that the product meets the minimum safety standards of an approving agency. These agencies are either government entities or private third-party labs that protect consumer safety.

Size/Dimension: The physical dimensions of the device. Typically length X width.

Height: Indicates the overall height of the device.
