Edgeboard Connectors

This Product Selection Guide contains information to help select products in the Edgeboard Connectors category on DigiKey.com

Card edge or edge-board connectors are a style of connector system in which (typically) a pattern of exposed copper regions at the periphery of a printed circuit board constitutes one-half of a mating connector pair. A common use case is the connection of accessory cards such as graphics accelerators to computer motherboards in desktop PC applications, they offer a relatively low-cost, high-density interconnect option for applications where durability is not a primary concern.

SelectionCharacteristics

Card Type: Indicates industry-standard interfaces or form factors in which a product is commonly incorporated, or describes accommodated arrangements of board-side contacts where a typical application is not specified.

Gender: Indicates whether the device is male or female in configuration.

Number of Positions/Bay/Row: The number of circuits in the connector per row, enumerated for each segment of the connector.

Number of Positions: Indicates the number of distinct conductors presented at a connector’s mating interface.

Card Thickness: The nominal circuit board (card) thickness with which a device is compatible.

Number of Rows: Indication of how many rows are found on the connector.

Pitch: Indicates the center-to-center spacing between adjacent pins.

Read Out: Indicates whether a connector provides interconnect functionality to contacts on one or both sides of a board/card.

Features: These are different capabilities or properties of the device such as a board lock, cap, or keyed.

Mounting Type: Indicates how the device is attached.

Termination: Selection of termination style used to connect the device to a system, such as crimp, pres-fit, or solder.

Contact Material: Indicates the material composition of the contacts of the device.

Contact Finish: Indicates the finish/plating material applied to the contacts of the device.

Contact Finish Thickness: Indicates the thickness of the finish/plating material applied to the contacts of a device.

Contact Type: Indicates thes style of contacts contained within the device.

Color: The dominant color of the device.

Flange Feature: Describes the design of a part’s mounting flange and the fasteners used in conjunction therewith.

Operating Temperature: Recommended operating temperature, typically given in a range or as a maximum. Exceeding these temperatures may affect performance or damage the device and other system components.
